Children’s Book Design Case Study
A playful picture book for early vocabulary learning.
The Challenge
Educational children’s books must teach clearly while keeping young readers visually engaged. If pages feel too crowded, children can lose focus before connecting the word to the image. Early learning books also need repetition, humor, and simple sentence structures to support memory. Poor design can make vocabulary practice feel dull instead of playful.
The Solution
The design uses large animal illustrations, short pink sentences, and open cream backgrounds to keep every learning point easy to understand. Each spread focuses on one idea, such as near and far, fast and slow, fat and thin, or simple animal actions. The hand-drawn cat, dog, bird, hog, sheep, squirrel, and pig characters add humor and personality. Watercolor clouds and green hills create a consistent outdoor world that feels soft, cheerful, and child-friendly.
