Food & Beverage Packaging Design
Food and beverage packaging design covers the structure, the graphics, and the regulated label of a packaged food or non-alcoholic drink: how it looks on the shelf and whether the Nutrition Facts, allergens, and net quantity are right. We design packaging that stands out in a crowded aisle and is built to meet FDA labeling rules.

What it is
What is food and beverage packaging design?
Food and beverage packaging design is the work of designing the container, the graphics, and the regulated label for a packaged food or non-alcoholic drink. It sets how the product looks on the shelf and online, and it places the information the FDA requires, such as the Nutrition Facts panel, the ingredient and allergen statements, and the net quantity, in the right place at the right size.
Good food packaging does two jobs at once: it earns a second look in a crowded aisle, and it keeps the brand out of trouble at retail and with regulators. It is worth doing well when you are launching a new SKU, entering grocery or club retail, or refreshing a line that looks dated next to competitors. We design to current FDA rules and account for the proposed front-of-package nutrition box, but final legal compliance is confirmed by you and your regulatory reviewer, not assumed.

How we work
How we design food and beverage packaging
1Discovery and audit
We review your category, shelf set, competitors, and the FDA labeling that applies to your product.
2Structure and format
We choose the pack format and size with your co-packer or printer constraints in mind.
3Design directions
We develop distinct front-of-pack directions and pressure-test them at shelf scale and thumbnail size.
4Label and compliance layout
We build the Nutrition Facts, ingredient, allergen, and net-quantity content to current FDA format.
5Variants and prepress
We roll the chosen design across every SKU and prepare press-ready dielines and files.
6Proof and launch
We check a printer proof, fix any color or trim issues, and hand off final artwork.
Why it matters
Why food and beverage packaging matters
Done well, food and beverage packaging sells the product on the shelf and keeps the label clean at retail.
Shelf standout
Packaging built to be found fast in a crowded aisle and to read clearly at thumbnail size online.
Fewer compliance surprises
Labels designed to current FDA rules, so artwork is less likely to stall at retail review.
A coherent range
One design system across every flavor and size, so the full line looks like one brand.
Who this is best for
The right fit
Best fit when
You sell a packaged food or non-alcoholic drink and you are launching a SKU, entering grocery or club retail, or refreshing a line that looks dated. It is also a fit when you need shelf impact and correct FDA labeling in one pass.
You might not need this
If your product is an alcoholic drink, its label is governed by the TTB rather than the FDA, so Wine, Spirits & Beer Label Design is the page you want. Supplements and vitamins follow their own Supplement Facts panel, which we cover on a separate page.
FAQs
Common questions about food and beverage packaging
How much does food packaging design cost?
It depends on the pack format, the number of SKUs in the range, and how much label compliance work is involved. A single label costs far less than a full line of cartons with a Nutrition Facts rebuild across many flavors. We give a fixed price after a short audit, so you know the cost before any design starts.
Do you make sure my Nutrition Facts label is correct?
We design the Nutrition Facts panel to the current FDA format, with the right type sizes, layout, and rounding, using the values your formulator or lab provides. We do not generate the nutrition values themselves, and final regulatory sign-off rests with you. If the proposed FDA front-of-package box becomes final, we build it in.
What is the new FDA front-of-package label?
In January 2025 the FDA proposed a front-of-package Nutrition Info box that would show Low, Medium, or High for saturated fat, sodium, and added sugars on the upper third of the main panel of most packaged foods. It is a proposed rule, not yet final, so timing can still change. We design artwork that can accommodate it, so a future update is a small change rather than a redesign.
Can you design packaging for a full product line, not just one item?
Yes. We build a design system that holds across every flavor, size, and format, so a ten-SKU range reads as one brand on the shelf. Each variant keeps a clear point of difference while sharing the same structure and layout. This is usually more cost-effective than designing each pack from scratch.
Do you handle the print files, or just the design?
We prepare press-ready files: dielines, bleeds, and CMYK or Pantone color set up for your printer. We are a design studio, not a printer, so we do not run the press, but we check a printer proof and fix color or trim issues before launch. If you only need a clean production file from an existing design, that is a separate service.
How long does food packaging design take?
It depends mostly on the number of SKUs, whether photography is involved, and how many rounds of feedback we go through. A single label is quick, while a full line with structure and compliance work takes longer. We give a firm timeline with the quote after the audit.
