Progressive Web App Development

A progressive web app, or PWA, is a website built to behave like a native app: users can install it to their home screen, it works offline, and it can send push notifications, all from a single codebase and without the app stores. Because it is still a website, it stays fast to update and visible to search engines, which native apps are not.

What it is

What is a progressive web app?

A progressive web app is a web application that uses modern browser features to feel and function like a native app. With a service worker and a web app manifest, it can be installed to the home screen, load and work offline, and receive push notifications, while still running in the browser from a single codebase. Users reach it through a normal URL rather than downloading it from an app store.

A PWA is the right call when you want an app-like experience that is cheap to reach everyone, easy to update, and findable on the web, for example a content site, a store, or a tool that does not depend on deep device hardware. It is not always the right choice. If your product needs heavy native performance, full hardware access, or a presence in the app stores, a native or cross-platform app fits better, and we will tell you plainly which one suits your goals.

What's included

What a PWA build includes

Single web codebaseOne web app that runs across phones, tablets, and desktops from a single codebase.
Installable experienceA web app manifest so users can add it to the home screen and launch it like an app.
Offline supportA service worker that caches content so the app keeps working without a connection.
Push notificationsWeb push notifications to re-engage users, where the browser and platform support it.
SEO-indexablePages that search engines can crawl and rank, which native app stores do not offer.
Fast performanceCaching and optimized loading so the app feels quick even on slower networks.
Secure by defaultServed over HTTPS, which PWAs require, to keep data and connections protected.
How we work

How we build progressive web apps

1Fit and planning

We confirm a PWA suits your goals, then plan the features, content, and offline behavior.

2Design and structure

We design app-like, responsive screens that work across phones, tablets, and desktops.

3Build the web app

We build the app with a modern web stack against your backend or APIs.

4Offline and install

We add the service worker, manifest, caching, and push notifications.

5SEO and performance

We tune Core Web Vitals, indexing, and loading speed across devices.

6Launch and monitor

We deploy the PWA, submit the sitemap, and monitor performance after launch.

Why it matters

Why choose a PWA

A PWA gives you an app-like experience that reaches every device, skips the app stores, and stays on the web.

No app store needed

Users install straight from the browser, with no store download or approval step.

One codebase, every device

A single web app runs on phones, tablets, and desktops instead of separate builds.

Found on the web

PWA pages are crawlable and rank in search, unlike apps locked inside an app store.

Who this is best for

The right fit

Best fit for reach, content, and commerce

Content sites, stores, and tools that want an installable, app-like experience reachable by anyone on the web, cheaper to build than native and easy to keep updated.

You might not need this

If you need a presence in the app stores, deep access to device hardware, or maximum native performance, a real app is the better choice, such as React Native App Development for both platforms from one codebase, or a native iOS or Android build for the most demanding apps.

FAQs

Common questions about progressive web apps

What is the difference between a PWA and a native app?

A PWA is a website that behaves like an app and installs from the browser, while a native app is built for a specific platform and downloads from an app store. PWAs are cheaper to build, run from one codebase, update instantly, and show up in search. Native apps offer deeper hardware access, stronger performance, and a store listing. We help you pick based on what your product actually needs.

When should I choose a PWA over a native app?

Choose a PWA when you want broad reach, fast updates, search visibility, and lower cost, and your app does not depend on deep device hardware, for example a content site, a store, or a booking tool. Choose native when you need maximum performance, full hardware access, or an app store presence. The decision comes down to your features and audience, not to a default.

Do progressive web apps work on iPhone?

Yes, PWAs run on iOS in Safari and can be installed to the home screen, though Apple's support for some PWA features has historically lagged Android. Because these capabilities change over time, we confirm exactly what works on current iOS versions when we scope your project, so you know what your iPhone users will get.

Can a PWA work offline and send notifications?

Yes. A service worker lets a PWA cache content and keep working without a connection, and web push can send notifications where the browser and platform support it. We build the offline behavior around your content so the experience stays useful even on a poor network.

Are PWAs good for SEO?

Yes, and this is a real advantage over native apps. A PWA is still a website, so its pages can be crawled, indexed, and ranked by search engines, while native apps locked inside app stores cannot be. We build PWAs with clean, indexable pages and strong Core Web Vitals.

Can I put a PWA in the app stores too?

Sometimes. A PWA can be packaged for the app stores in certain cases, though each store has its own rules and review process. If an app store presence is important to you, we will tell you honestly whether packaging your PWA or building a native app is the better route.
