Wellness Journal Design Case Study
A playful positive psychology journal for reflection, humour, and real-life emotional reset.
The Challenge
Self-help journals can often feel too clinical, too motivational, or too heavy for readers who already feel overwhelmed. A 30-day wellbeing journal needs to guide reflection without making the experience feel like another task. The subject includes psychology-based tools, emotional check-ins, values work, and grounding strategies, so the design needed clear structure and enough breathing room. The challenge was to make evidence-informed wellbeing feel playful, human, and easy to complete.
The Solution
The design uses a black-and-white editorial system with bold serif titles, compact day labels, and clear PERMA category strips. Hand-drawn line illustrations, such as cups, jars, chairs, books, and playful doodle-style icons, add warmth without overdecorating the pages. Large blank spaces, ruled writing areas, reflection prompts, quotes, and workbook-style exercises make the journal practical for daily use. The humorous tone in headings and prompts supports the design’s approachable, real-life personality.
